Describe love and marriage in America today. What is it like? What are some words that you would use to characterize it?
In today's world, the words "Til death do us part" are meaningless. The divorce rates among marriages are sky rocketing. Did you know that 54% of marriages end in divorce? Most of those divorces happen in the first few years of the marriages. Love today can be characterized by how much people like each other or how many times the couple will sleep with each other. It's harsh, but true.
I just saw on channel 12 news last week that so many people have agreed to get a prenup at their wedding ceremony! A prenup is a contract that evenly splits all possessions between the couple when they get a divorce. This is preposterous and completely unromantic.
I have planned what my wedding day will be like. I will want to date my significant other for years before deciding to get married. This is a wise decision in my opinion. This way, I can see the flaws in my future husband and either fix them or learn how we can deal with them. Obviously, my husband is going to help me with my flaws too. I heard at Collision Church one Sunday night that the role of the wife is to uplift and support the husband in everything he does. This way, you gain respect for each other, and eventually the husband will begin to do the same, and it makes a perfect harmony among the two. I have been listening to this advice in my relationship and that has made it all the better.
I believe that real love is characterized by how two act with each other. When you are completely comfortable around that special person and always want to be around them, it is because you love and adore them, and that is the kind of person to marry.
Great thoughts, Alie. Lots of wisdom! You are a smart girl! And great wisdom you are here...a woman has a very important role in a man's life...not so much to fix them but to support and encourage and uplift! Great job! :)
